Simple Trick Keep Your Lettuce Fresh

How many times have you bought a fresh bag of lettuce in a brave attempt to eat healthy, only to throw the wilted soggy leaves after a couple of days? Sadly, too many times to count.

Most of us make our own feeble attempts to save the greens from dying but TBH, so far, nothing has worked except this one simple trick— courtesy, UK food blogger, Marie Saba. She shared her easy trick on Instagram and got a big nod of approval from her community of followers.
In her own words, “When you get home with bagged greens, cut open the bag and put a paper towel inside. The paper towel will absorb moisture and keep the greens fresher for longer.”

The secret to keeping your lettuce and other leafy green veggies fresh is to keep them in a semi-moist but not damp environment. The paper towel absorbs moisture leeching from the leaves and keeps them cool enough to stop them from wilting. Ideally, loose lettuce leaves should be used within a week but with this trick, you can keep them fresh for more than 10 days.

Here Is How to Store Lettuce

1. Wash your lettuce ( or any other leafy green vegetable) and remove any damaged leaves.

2. Soak it in ice water for a few minutes to restore crispness.

3. Leave them in open air to dry or use a salad spinner if you have loose leaves.

4. Add in a paper towel and put them in a plastic airtight container or bag.

5. Store your lettuce in the refrigerator. The crisper drawer is the best place to store lettuce.

Remember : Replace the paper towel any time it feels especially wet. Also, its better to check your lettuce every day or two and remove any outer leaves or loose leaves that are beginning to rot.
